We start the Cano Negro Tour driving on a comfortable tour van for approximately one hour and half close to the town of Los Chiles, located at 4 kms from the border of Nicaragua. Before to get to Los Chiles we take the road to Caño Negro Town and we will continue our journey by traveling the Río Frío via boat upstream to the Caño Negro Refuge.
Here you will experience one of nature’s most beautiful wildlife displays. While boating along the riverbanks, you most likely will encounter a great variety of birds, flora, mammals, and reptiles. Among the many birds are Wood Stork, White Ibis, Anhinga, Glossy Ibis, and Black-bellied Whistling Duck.
Some of the mammals and reptiles that live in the refuge include three species of monkeys, sloths, tapirs, ocelots, long-nosed bats, caimans, and the luminescent green Emerald Basilisks.
